My Quitting Story - Taine

My Name Is Taine, and this is my story:

Buying your first vape can be a scary, unsettling experience. I sure know mine was. Hindsight is 20/20 so I’m hoping that by sharing my story with you, you can learn from my mistakes and get off on the right foot with your vaping journey.

When I wanted to get started with vaping, I had no idea what to do or where to go. So I did what everyone seems to do and got online. I shopped around for a little bit before deciding to get a Smok Stick X8. Now, don't ask me what made me pick this because honestly I still don't know. That's not to say it's a bad device, but looking back at it with what I know now it was not the right device for me.

It arrived in the mail a few days later and safe to say I was ecstatic! I unpacked it straight away, filled it up and turned it on. I immediately tried vaping without waiting and took my first soft draw, oh what a mistake that was. The heat and intensity of the vapour got to me straight away and I began to cough, and worst of all, I couldn't taste any of the blueberry flavours I had just filled it up with, only a sickening burnt taste! I thought maybe I had just done it wrong so I tried again and got the same result. Even though I had had two bad attempts so far, I just kept drawing softer and softer hoping it would get better until I got fed up with it. This made me think that maybe vaping wasn't for me and that I just couldn't do it. So I left it on the bench and walked away. Much to my utter joy (sarcasm) when I came back to check it an hour later, the juice had leaked everywhere and the device was covered.

Luckily for me, my partner has been for a few months already when I decided to give it a go, so when he got home he was able to help me figure out what had gone wrong. He explained to me that my coil was burnt because I hadn’t primed it and that I had not installed the coil correctly.

So I started again.  I primed my coil and made sure it was screwed in correctly. I was ready to go, I held down the fire button and proceeded to do another small and gentle inhale trying my hardest not to go too hard. To my surprise, I started to cough again. I figured I needed to take a smaller inhale, so I tried again this time doing a gentler inhale, but it didn’t help. The frustration I felt at this point was insane.

I decided it was time that I go into an actual vape shop to see if they could help me and see what was going wrong, and I'm so glad I did. They told me that the device I purchased was designed for direct to lung vaping (DTL) and because I wasn't drawing hard enough this was why I was coughing. They explained to me that if I do a deeper inhale it would be a lot smoother. I gave it a go and it worked like a charm but decided that the deeper inhale and larger volume of vapour just wasn’t for me. I spoke to them about my options and if there were any devices that I didn’t have to inhale so hard as now I knew what I wanted. They were very helpful and showed me a rage of mouth to lung (MTL) devices and helped me pick the perfect vape for me. That was over 2 years ago, and I have been vaping ever since.

Here’s what I learnt:

Choosing a vape online can be hard. There are hundreds if not thousands of options to choose from and it can be completely overwhelming. So if you can, I would recommend going into your local vape shop and having a chat with them one on one. If you don’t have a vape shop nearby, please give any Super Vape Store a call and we will help you pick the right set up for you.

Know how to use your device before you turn it on. Again going into a store is the best way to learn to use your new vape but for those that don’t have a store, nearby Youtube can be very helpful for learning about using and maintaining your vape.

I hope that hearing a bit about my vaping journey and how I got started at least gave you a little bit of helpful information for yours too, and failing that, hopefully, you got a little giggle from it (I know I sure did looking back on it)

I think my biggest mistake when first starting was getting a bottom airflow tank. Since changing to geekvape zeus tanks I I haven’t looked back.
Thanks for sharing your journey and glad you came out with a good results
